Looking for Summer Fun? Look to Golden, Colorado!
Residents of the metro area and beyond looking for good weekend entertainment this summer should consider the options offered by our own cities. Summer is a time for local festivals and events. In particular, Golden offers multiple entertainment and recreational options.
Golden's largest summer event (and one of the largest in the area) is the five-day Buffalo Bill Days, occurring July 27 to 31. Thousands of attendees show up for activities as diverse as a golf tourney at Fossil Trace, live music, a kiddie train, and the man of the hour himself, Buffalo Bill Cody, roaming the midway. Perhaps the biggest event anchoring Buffalo Bill Days is the enormous parade, which takes place 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30. On Sunday kids can test their mettle astride a sheep in the popular Muttin Bustin' event. The festival features two car shows, on July 31 - one is pre-1971, while the "Orphan" show features cars whose manufacturers no longer exist, such as Studdebaker, Fraser, Kaiser, Hudson and DeLorean. These shows are free and open to registrants who have insurance.
If you're looking for the ever-popular arts festival this summer, Golden Fine Arts Festival (Aug. 21 and 22) is nationally recognized as one of the best. Set amid the scenic backdrop of Golden in the summer, up to 150 artists from different parts of the country (but mostly from Colorado) are displaying and selling their goods, which include all manner of paintings, glass, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and photography. Kids are engaged by arts-and-crafts tents, and adults can be entertained by five stages of live music, featuring such different acts as Come August, Flywheel, Exit 02 and the Ayo Awosika Band. Whether to simply browse or purchase art for your home, the Golden Fine Arts Fest in an excellent investment of time.
Catering to the growing interest in classic cars and car shows, Golden presents the Wild West Auto Roundup on June 11 along Washington. There is much to take in as more than 200 autos are on display, from vintage to muscle cars to hot rods to street rods. The Roundup also features a contest in which cars are judged in 14 separate categories. Similar to all of Golden's major summer festivals, there is live music for the adults and entertainment activities for the children. Come spend the day and peruse the retailers along Washington!
For something lighter, consider Movies and Music in the Park. Thrice during August Golden presents a free evening at Parfet Park (10th and Washington) featuring live music and a feature-length film. On Aug. 5 the Clam Daddys will precede "How to Train Your Dragon." On Aug. 12, Jonny Barber vs. The Living Deads warms up the crowd for "Back to the Future," and on Aug. 19 The Resonatorz precede "Voyage of the Dawn Treader." Families are encouraged to bring and enjoy a picnic. Also, weekends this summer (May 28 to Sept. 4), bring the kids to Dino Days at Dinosaur Ridge (16831 W. Alameda Parkway) on Saturdays and Sundays. The free sessions educate the whole family about the vast prehistoric fossils that earned the area its name, and includes a puppet show and storytime.

Things to Consider in Planning a Family Vacation
All families go through daily stresses and thus all families need a vacation in one way or another. You yourself face stress in your responsibilities at home as well as stress in your responsibilities at your work place. These alone make you want to have a break free experience.
You must remember though, that your kids go through stresses too. Kids go through enough stress of keeping up with scholastic pressure add to that the stress of going through hormonal changes.
These reasons alone are enough bases for considering a family vacation. The next step now is on how to set up a good vacation experience. Your dream vacation is not far from reality.
These basic tips will be your kick off for planning a family vacation:
1. Set up a budget plan. All vacations require spending - some more than others. It's practical to have a budget plan to avoid over spending and ending up with an empty bank account.
2. With your budget plan in place, you can now have a good estimate of your realistic financial state. Find out if you have disposable income that you can allocate for your family vacation. Do you have extra income to spend on this dream vacation? If not, consider cutting your daily expenses. Even so, find ways to generate extra money like a part time job, or even garage sales. Whatever it is, get all of your family to take part. Informing them of the goal of a family vacation will enflame their enthusiasm to participate. Furthermore, when you go out for your trip, all your family members will appreciate it more knowing the effort that they all put into it.
3. Be travel smart. Find a way to save on one the biggest expenses of a vacation - the accommodations. In line with that, there are travel clubs to cater to this need.
The most memorable family vacation help will come from you. It is said that the most practical, beautiful, workable philosophy in the world won't work - if you won't. All your dreaming can surely become a reality but it takes your effort.

Matapalo Beach On The Osa Peninsula – The Secret Hideaway Of Costa Rica
We had the great opportunity to visit my friends who live in Puerto Jimenez, a cute town on the Osa Peninsula. It's full of expats and I fell in love with it to the point that we were considering moving there for a while. Puerto Jimenez itself is a fairly big town with a population reaching well into the thousand, maybe even 2.
During the trip, our friends took us another one hour south to visit a teeny coastline village. Just the drive over there will give you an experience of a life time. The road was so bad, that were told that during the rainy season the residents (which is about 90% foreigners) have to either stock up for 3 months, or fly into Puerto Jimenez due to floods and total washouts.
Thankfully my friends drive a big bad 4x4 so we were able to tackle some of the rough terrain. That was because at some points cows blocked the roads we also saw sleepy iguanas chewed leaves from the surrounding trees.
When we finally arrived we saw that there is not actual town per say, it's just a bunch of hidden houses and eco lodges all along the rocky coastline with virgin rain forest as the back drop. There is also little foot paths allow you to experience the place way better than driving a car.
We headed to explore since my friend's son and my son in the water all day and my husband helping out by hanging out in the water with them. We snuck onto a few properties under construction with unbelievable views.
The funny part is that we got lost on one of the hiking trails that is supposed to hug the coast, but instead was so rocky that we almost fell to our deaths. However, the beach where we ended up hanging out was deserted, with plenty of shade and perfect for a homemade BBQ.
All the eco lodges offer plenty of tours to the surrounding jungle and take you on tours to Corcovado National Park, quoted by National Geographic as the most biologically intense place on Earth!

Vaction Homes Can Save You Money On Your Vacation
DRG Property Services offers many housing options such as townhouses, condo's and regular homes at rates that are affordable for many families. You can save money too by going on vacation during the "off season" such as after Labor Day. The kids are back in school and the traditional vacation season dies down dramatically and you can take advantage of the great weather well into the fall season.
Stocking a home with food that has a kitchen is a great money saver. DRG properties offer kitchens that make feeding your family a lot less expensive than eating out every night at expensive restaurants.
Renting a car on line can usually save you money than making a phone call. Rent an economy car but when you go to pick up the car always ask for an upgrade. Economy cars go fast and most car companies will offer upgrades at no additional cost. If you don't ask, you probably wont get the upgrade.
If you are flying into Orlando, book your reservations on-line at least 2 weeks in advance. Check around and see who is offering the best rates and always check for any restrictions. Travel agents may also be a helpful resource to use at this time.
After your week at the place you rented, please remember to leave the house as clean as you found it. Most property services companies charge a hefty fee to clean (or repair) a house that goes beyond just a normal cleaning. For example, take all the trash out, clean the kitchen and put all furniture back where it was. Report any problems immediately to the property owners so quick repairs can be made.
