Sloppy Joes been operating since 1937 and is considered one of the great historic bars in the USA. It offers huge cocktails, great food, boutique beers and all the big games on satellite TV. Live entertainment starts at noon. Its patrons like to sit and linger. It stays open till four in the morning.

Around the corner from Sloppy Joes, on Whitehead and Southard, stands another historic institution, the Green Parrot. It began life in 1890 as a grocery store but quickly developed into a music joint for Caribbean migrants that had drifted into the Keys. After the Second World War ended and navy sailors had more time to relax, the grocery store morphed into the Brown Derby Bar.
