Kayaking For People With Disabilities
Gone are the days when people that are physically challenged are absolutely helpless. These days, society and the physically handicapped communities have found means to make incapacitated individuals become more independent and responsible. They can even venture into sports without any problem. People like to overcome challenges, and it is great to note that the challenge of physical disability is now a thing of the past.
One of the most raved recreations for disabled people is kayaking. There are some people who have revolutionized the sport and made them available even to handicapped individuals. One name that stands out would be Mark Theobald.
Mark is known as the disabled kayak inventor/extraordinaire to his peers. With his innovative ways and astonishing dedication, he has made the sport possible and accessible to people who before had no chance of enjoying paddling the waters. His revolutionary paddles and backrest adaptations have made his designs a hit for many organizations with disability programs.
Kayaking enthusiasts with physical disabilities have much to thank Mark for. One enthusiast who cannot walk raved that kayaking is a great sport for him because paddling can replace walking and now he can be free to explore unique environments and overcome challenges with independence.
These days, more and more quadriplegics are getting the chance to be able to paddle a kayak as Mark is continually working with them to engineer designs that would enable them to operate a kayak independently. One female college student in particular thought that there was no more chance for her but they were able to do the unexpected. Like many people who has CP, her movements are strictly limited.
One of the people who tested Mark's concept is a quadriplegic who had very limited use of his hands. The revolutionized hand paddles made it almost effortless for him to steer the kayak. He gave the design a rave review. As of today he is still working with Mark to further the concept to enable those with severe handicaps to enjoy the sport of kayaking.
People like Mark with their tireless devotion of their time, skill and effort help physically challenged people to enjoy life as much as they can. Because of them kayaking is no longer for fully able people alone. People with disabilities now have a chance to explore new possibilities and surpass what seemed to be an insurmountable challenge independently.
